Learning Git & GitHub

For a long time, I have wanted to learn about version control – it is one of those “must have” skills for developers and data scientists. So, I am beginning to grapple with Git & GitHub.

Git is a tool for local source control. With Git you can track changes to your source files, update your source files, and rollback unwanted changes.

GitHub is a tool for remote repository management. The thing I really like about GitHub is that it is collaborative.

The git website is full of excellent reference material and tutorials. Making changes to your repo is detailed in this great tutorial: Git Basics, Recording Changes To the Repository

I am also learning to program in R at the moment. So a lot of my experiments and discoveries in R will be added to my Git & GitHub repo, learningR.
